Ping! The London Underground is Finally Getting 4G

The London Underground is a signal-dead zone no more! Here’s what you need to know about TFL’s rollout of 4G on the Tube.

Gone will be the days of trying to piggyback off the janky Tube wifi or having to cut a phone call short so you can get on the train – it’s been announced that the London Underground will be getting 4G mobile signal.

What You Need to Know

London Underground 4G

Part of the rollout has already begun, with the Central Line between Holland Park and Queensway already connected, as well as everything between Kentish Town and Archway on the Northern Line. There has, of course, been 4G on most of the Jubilee line since March 2020.

The rest of the Tube will be getting connectivity soon enough and testing has already begun at Camden, Oxford Circus, and Tottenham Court Road for getting those stops and the tube stations near them ready for connectivity.

TFL has said they aim to have the whole London Underground connected to 4G networks by the end of 2024.

There’s a touch of bad news though.

TFL have been squirrelling away to allow peoples phones to connect to their phone providers signal – but they’re still working on getting all the phone providers on board. So far EE, Vodafone, Virgin/O2, and Three UK have access.

Sorry everyone else. You’ll have to wait.
