Need space to skate? London will host the UK’s biggest ice rink this winter.
As the winter zooms closer and closer, our minds tend to turn to one thing: Ice skating. London does it well, with rinks popping up all over the city. It seems this year though, Kensington Palace has decided to go one further: for their annual ICE at Kensington Palace winter fair, they’ve got plans to build the UK’s biggest-ever ice rink.
Yep, you read that correctly. The biggest ever. The Palace’s ice rink will clock in at a cool (see what we did there) 2,800 square metres.
They tell us that the rink will be the length of a football field which gives you plenty of room to cling on to the sides as you wobble your way across the ice. What’s more, the rink will be covered over so that bad weather won’t disrupt any of your plans to skate the night away.
Of course, the usual array of festive stalls will be on offer selling goodies like mulled wine and hearty hot chocolates. Remember though, this is Kensington Palace so a taste of the good life is a must: Only natural then that Cecconi’s and Fortnum & Mason will have their own stands up too.
When Can I Go?
ICE at Kensington Palace opens on the 30th of November 2023 and runs until the 7th of January 2024.
The rink is open for skating throughout those dates but is closed after 6pm on Christmas Eve and all day on Christmas Day.
The skating slots themselves are 45 minutes long, open at 10am and close at 8pm. Tickets are already on sale and the prime slots will no doubt sell like hot cakes, so you’d better get in there fast.
