Get ready to soar above London on a Willy Wonka-esque elevator, as the Battersea Power Station lift opens in the capital next week.
If you keep your finger on the pulse of London goings on you’ll have heard about the recent refurbishment of Battersea Power Station – a job that cost zillions of pounds and put what was a once run-down bit of industrial wasteland on the map as one of London’s hottest new lifestyle hubs (that’s PR jargon for ‘cool place to hang out’).
Part of that refurbishment includes stuffing the place with restaurants and bars, co-working spaces and gyms, some of which have been opening up bit by bit.
On November 15th (at exactly 1:09pm) they will open Lift 109, a glass elevator that shoots up to the top of the northwest chimney where you can take in 360-degree views of London.
Interested? You should be.
What to Expect?
Well, basically that. 360-degree views of London. The platform is 109m up – probably how Lift 109 gets its name – so the views are going to be pretty spectacular.
Rings of light and a soundscape reminiscent of rising energy will accompany the journey to the top of the chimney. It’s unclear if the floor of the lift is glass or just the walls – plenty of potential for the fear factor here then.
At the bottom of the chimney, there’ll be an immersive exhibition of Battersea Power Station’s history where you can learn about the power station’s industrial past.
Tickets for Lift 109 start from £15.90 and are available already. You can book them here.
