Hot on the heels of the opening of the brand new Elizabeth line in London (the new, high-speed railway that will eventually connect Reading and Abbey Wood with Central London, FYI), London Transport Museum is hosting a bangin’ Elizabeth Line Street Party Late.
The event is set to take place on Friday 9th September from 6:45pm and promises an evening of nostalgic fun and fascinating talks… And there might be some booze involved. Ok, there definitely is.
Here’s what you need to know.
Games, Cocktails and Fun
Get ready to take a seat around a giant table, as the event will be hosted in a true British street-party style and complete with plenty of nostalgia-inducing games to get involved with.
We’re talking about the likes of snakes and ladders and hopscotch – seriously competitive stuff.
The best part? You’ll get to enjoy Elizabeth Line-inspired cocktails (they’re purple, of course) and explore the museum’s galleries after dark, including the popular Hidden London exhibition.
If you’re feeling brave you can ‘drive’ an Elizabeth line train in the Future Engineers gallery, or simply climb aboard historic buses, Tube trains, and trams from London’s past. Learning all the juicy secrets of the capital’s disused Underground stations as you go.
And, if the cocktails have got your creative juices flowing, flex your design skills as you get the chance to build your own railway station and make your own wristband to celebrate the occasion.
Each of the different stations (pardon the pun) within the event will be inspired by a different decade of Queen Elizabeth’s reign, so feel free to rotate your way around them all.
Elizabeth Line-Themed Quiz and Talks
It’s not all fun and games though (that’s a lie – it definitely is!) as there’s a pop quiz to get involved with.
Get ready to test your knowledge of London’s latest railway line – and find out if you’ve been paying attention – and make Queen Lizzie proud.
London Transport Museum’s Elizabeth Line Late will also host plenty of fascinating talks throughout the evening by the likes of Chris Nix (the Museum’s Assistant Director of Collections and Engagement) and documentary curator Rosamund Lily West.
Expect to learn more about the Elizabeth Line’s past, present, and future.
